DRIVE TEST ANAYSIS AND POSTPROCESSING IN GSM or 2G COVERAGE BASED

Analyzing RF Drive Test On Coverage Based

After the Drive Test, the important part is to analyze the log files and recommend solutions to the problems observed during the drive test. The log files are replayed and then analyzed. If required, the recording function can be used to copy material between log files. The Drive Test will be inspected for both the voice traffic and data traffic.

Coverage based

Low signal level is one of the biggest problems in a network. Low signal level can result in unwanted situations that could directly lower the network performance. The following aspects should be checked when analyzing the log files for the coverage issues.

Low Signal Level

Insufficient signal level or Coverage holes might exist in areas with few sites, or obstacles like tall structures or hills, obstructing the line of sight of the broadcasted signal. Owing to the low signal level, interference can severely degrade the RF conditions, and hence particular attention needs to be paid to C/I values.

Drop Call due to Bad Coverage

Calls are dropped due to poor coverage, when signal level goes below the minimum level that can support a call. Remember this minimum level is much lower than Rx Access Minimum Level to prevent on–going call from dropping.
Drop Call due to Bad Coverage

Rx Levels of Many Cells are almost the same:

Signal Strength of all the neighbors are almost the same with each other. This shows the network needs optimization work in the area because there are too many cells having overlapping coverage. This will cause quality problems because of frequency reuse. Such areas need to be cleared out by ensuring that a logical serving cell is dominant in its designated serving area.

Access Failures after a Drop Call

Access failures can happen because of low level below Access Minimum, bad quality or blocking in the target cell, or hardware failures. If you get a blocked call message during call set–up, it may be because the signal being received by the MS is below the Access Minimum value, and hence the MS is not allowed to access the network.

Possible solutions to improve coverage for the above mentioned situation are listed below:
·         Site Configuration Change (Antenna height, azimuth, tilt changes)
·         Loss or Attenuation Check (Feeders, Connectors, Jumpers, etc.)
·         Macro / Metro site proposal
·         In building Solution
·         Repeater Installation
