This article is about Exothermic (Thermite) Welding Materials, Molds, & Tools Selection & Requirements of Electrical Power System Systems as per International Codes and standards for Commercial Buildings, Plants and Refinery Projects.
Exothermic (Thermite) Welding Materials, Molds, & Tools Selection
General Requirement
- Electrical materials shall be new and unused.
- Electrical materials shall be in accordance with the Saudi Aramco-approved project-specific design drawings, diagrams,
schedules, lists, databases, and associated documents. - Electrical materials shall be free of damage.
- Electrical materials shall conform to all applicable requirements, standards, and specifications prior to release to be used as part of the work.
- Electrical materials shall be identified by using tags, stamps, color coding, stencils or labels. The location and method of identification shall not affect the function or quality of the materials.
- Electrical materials shall be traceable from the manufacturer and supplier through delivery, storage, fabrication, erection, installation, repair, modification and use.
Specific Requirement for Exothermic (Thermite) Welding Materials, Molds, & Tools
- Document must be submitted showing that the material complies with the UL-467 Requirement. (UL 467 APPENDIX A)
- The container/packaging box containing the Exothermic Materials, Molds & Tools shall be Marked with the following: 1. Manufacturer’s name, trade name, or other acceptable marking whereby the organization responsible for the product can be readily identified. 2. A distinctive catalog number or equivalent identification. (UL 467 APPENDIX A)
- Installation instructions shall be provided to field processes and include the following (or equivalent): 1. Identification of all materials involved in the process.
2. The recommended weight of mixture for the wire size and type of rod. 3. Installer’s and inspector’s guide for electrical connections.
4. Recommended number of connections for each mold.
5. Solid stranded copper wire conductors and wire size for each “”connection “” process. 6. Type of grounding rod electrode which can be connected to the wire conductor. (UL 467 APPENDIX A) - Detail of Special Handling or Storage Requirement / shelf life expiry date shall be provided. Manufacturer’s Instructions.
