A tower-mounted amplifier (TMA) is deployed on the top of a tower to amplify uplink signals. Figure 1 and Figure 2 show the installation position and effect of a TMA, respectively. The TMA improves the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), sensitivity, and uplink coverage of the base station.

TMAs can be categorized into common and smart TMAS. A common TMA notifies the power supply party of a fault by changing the current. This alarm mode is called current window alarm mode (CWA mode). In addition to the CWA mode, a smart TMA can also notify the AISG signal provider of the alarm status through the AISG function. This mode is called AISG mode.
