The Radio Computing Session Protocol (RCSP) is a 6G session-layer protocol that manages computing sessions over the computing plane, coordinating computing radio bearers and inter-station computing bearers for efficient resource transmission.
Definition
In 6G networks, a computing plane transmission mode introduces new bearer modes at the bearer layer to support distributed computing tasks. This includes a computing radio bearer (CRB) for the air interface and a computing bearer (CB) for the inter-station or terrestrial interface.
To manage and control computing sessions over this plane, a new Radio Computing Session Protocol (RCSP) is introduced at the session layer. A computing session established using this protocol may also be referred to as an RCSP session.
The RCSP is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and terminating computing sessions while coordinating resources across multiple nodes and bearers. This allows 6G networks to efficiently handle high-computation and low-latency applications that rely on distributed computing and edge resources.
Examples
For a computing plane transmission mode, the bearer layer uses a computing radio bearer (CRB) to transmit computing data over the air interface to user equipment or edge nodes. Simultaneously, a computing bearer (CB) at the inter-station interface manages the transport of computing data between base stations or cluster nodes.
The RCSP session coordinates these bearers to ensure consistent delivery, low latency, and high reliability. By integrating session management with bearer allocation, RCSP allows seamless task execution across distributed 6G network nodes.
For example, a computing session between a task executor (TE) and a cluster node (cNode) may use CRB for air interface data transmission and CB for inter-node transmission. RCSP manages the session lifecycle, including session setup, resource allocation, and session release, ensuring efficient end-to-end computing communication.
This protocol is critical for 6G applications requiring real-time AI processing, distributed computing, and edge computing, enabling coordinated computing across multiple network elements.
