This article is about general and technical requirements for integrated automation network electronics used in Integrated Automation System or Building Automation System.

INTEGRATED AUTOMATION NETWORK ELECTRONICS TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

<THIS SECTION DEFINES THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE IAS NETWORK ELECTRONICS.  THE NETWORK ELECTRONICS MUST BE CLOSELY COORDINATED WITH THE CLIENT’S IT DEPARTMENT. IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THE DESIGN ENGINEER MEET WITH THE IT DEPARMENT TO REVIEW THIS SECTION AND MODIFY TO WORK IN SYNERGY WITH THE CLIENT’S NETWORK INFRASTRUCTURE.>

<THE CAPABILITIES OF NETWORK ELECTRONICS CONTINUALLY IMPROVE. THE DETAILS PROVIDED MUST BE VERIFIED AND MODIFIED AS REQUIRED TO MEET THE LATEST TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENTS AND REQUIREMENTS OF THE PROJECT. DO NOT USE ANY OF THE INFORMATION WITHIN THIS SECTION WITHOUT VERIFYING ITS RELEVANCE TO THE PROJECT DESIGN>

PART 1 – GENERAL

  • RELATED DOCUMENTS

    1. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section.
    2. Specifications throughout all Divisions of the Project Manual are directly applicable to this Section, and this Section is directly applicable to them.
    3. Refer to Section 25 00 00 – Integrated Automation System (IAS) General for general requirements.
    4. Refer to Divisions <26, 27, and 28> for network electronics and the installation of those systems as they pertain to the IAS. <Coordinate with other sections as required>
  • SUMMARY

    2. Furnish and install all network electronics as required for the IAS functions specified. All equipment shall be warranted by the manufacturer for a period of oneone year after final acceptance.
  • REFERENCE STANDARDS
    1. The latest published edition of a reference shall be applicable to this Project unless identified by a specific edition date.
    2. All reference amendments adopted prior to the effective date of this Contract shall be applicable to this Project.
    3. All materials, installation and workmanship shall comply with the applicable requirements and standards addressed within all references.

PART 2 – PRODUCTS

  • GENERAL

    1. All materials shall meet or exceed all applicable referenced standards, federal, state and local requirements, and conform to codes and ordinances of authorities having jurisdiction.
    2. The make and model of <control system server computers, personal computers (PC), notebook PC’s, and monitors> shall comply with Owner’s current standards for desktop personal computers as of the date of Substantial Completion. Contact Owner for the current computer hardware standards.
  • Control System Server (CSS) General requirments

    1. <State Server Requirements or utilize existing Server>
    2. Processor: Intel Pentium® IV, 2 GHz or higher, Core 2 Duo also acceptable
    3. Operating System:
      1. Windows 7, 32 bit or 64 bit
      2. Linux AX Supervisors (32-bit), Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
    4. Memory: 8 GB minimum
    5. Hard Drive: 1 TB minimum
    6. Display: High Definition Video card and monitor
    7. Network Support: Ethernet adapter (100/1000 Mb with RJ-45 connector)
    8. Connectivity: Full time high speed ISP connection recommended for remote site access (i.e. T1, ADSL, cable modem)
  • IAS NETWORK SWITCH(s)

    1. General Requirements: Furnish, install, and configure a rack mounted network switch which meets or exceeds the following criteria: <Confirm/Modify the following Requirements>
      1. <IAS Network switch consists of 100/1000Base-T Fast Ethernet Switch>
      2. The Network Switch shall be a <existing> managed switch requiring external network configuration.
      3. The Network Switch supports multiple RJ-45 connections and shall provide a <sufficient quantity> of available ports as indicated on the IAS design documents. <Coordinate with Design Drawings. The engineer should provide a network architecture diagram within the design drawings. The network architecture diagram will provide an overview of the expected architecture including server, workstations, network switches, network controllers and device level controllers. The network architecture diagram will become the basis for comparable bid evaluation and enforcement of system performance during construction administration and commissioning>
      4. The Network Switch shall have “link light” LED for indication of communication status.
      5. Network Switch shall be sized to meet the following criteria.
        1. A <sufficient quantity> of ports to support all network controllers, and other IP based interfaces contained as part of this project.
        2. <Sufficient> spare capacity to account for known additions, or upgrades or, if none are identified, the switch shall have <20%> of total consumed ports dedicated to being spare.
        3. A single Network Switch shall be used for all IAS connections.
      6. The Network Switch is rack mountable consuming no more than 4U of rack space.

  • IAS FIELD NETWORK SWITCHES

    1. All field level switches that are not located in the IAS network rack shall be powered from a direct-wired circuit and not from a wall wart type transformer. Field level switches which reside outside of the IAS network rack shall be designed for industrial applications. Switches designated for office or residential use shall not be accepted. These switches shall meet the following criteria: <Confirm/Modify the following requirements>
      1. Switch shall be a <existing> managed switch selected for the application
      2. Switch shall meet the requirements listed for the defined IAS network switch and the details contained in this article. <Coordinate with Design Drawings>
      3. Switch shall be DIN Rail mounted in a sealed and lockable enclosure
      4. Mechanical stability ratings shall meet the following:
        1. IEC 60068-2-27 Shock Requirements – 15 g, 11ms , 18 shocks
        2. IEC 60068-2-6 Vibration Requirements – 1mm, 2Hz, 90 Min
      5. EMC interference Immunity rating shall meet the following:
        1. EN 61000-4-2 Electrostatic Discharge – 6kV contact discharge, 8kV air discharge
        2. EN 61000-4-3 Electromagnetic Field -10 V/m (80 – 1000 MHZ)

  • Routers

    1. Furnish, install and configure Routers as needed to meet the functionality of the IAS.
    2. Routers may not be used as a means of reducing network communications on a designated bus for the purpose of increasing the ratio of network controllers to communicating field devices.
    3. Routers may be used to establish additional sub-LAN’s when a remote I/O module is required to be connected to a PCU for the purpose of controlling equipment which point count exceeds the capabilities of a single controller. This is common on large AHU’s or Central Plants.
    4. Routers may be used to separate two control networks for the purpose of isolating equipment from networks which may be required to be UL listed.
    5. Routers may be used to as a media translator for various transmissions such as IP, Powerline, WiFi, RS232, RS485, FTT-10, etc.
    6. Routers shall meet the following criteria:
      • Shall be DIN rail mountable or shall be mounted securely within a control panel.
      • <EIA-852 and ANSI/EIA 709.1 complaint (LonWorks only)>
      • WiFi LAN connectivity using the IEEE 802.11 b/g standard
        1. 4 GHz to 2.5 GHz ISM band

        3. Supports private key certificate in corporate environment

  • IAS Network UPS

  • PORTABLE OPERATOR TERMINAL (POT) / REMOTE WORKSTATION <If Required>
    1. Portable Operator Terminal shall support system management <by connection to the controllers, by connection via the Internet, and by dial-up communications while serving as the remote workstation>.
    2. Provide <one> notebook personal computer (PC) or tablet with a touchscreen that meets or exceeds the minimum requirements of the IAS software and meets or exceeds the minimum requirements of the <client>. Notebook PC shall contain a <24X/24X/24X/8X CD-RW/DVD ROM Combo Drive>.
    3. Provide a <100/1000 LAN PC Card> if internal adapter is not present.
    4. Provide minimum <14.1 inch XGA active matrix or touchscreen>
    5. Provide carrying case and extra battery (if available).
    6. Operating system for portable operator terminal shall be <Microsoft Windows 7/8/10>.
    7. Provide software, graphics and programming as specified in Section 25 15 00.
    8. Provide additional hardware, video drivers, serial ports, etc., to facilitate all control functions and software requirements specified for the IAS.
    9. Provide all controller configurations and interface software and/or plug-ins for all devices applicable. All shall be loaded and functional.  Provide all required interface cables to connect all networks, routers, controllers, SDs etc.
    10. Wherever a POT connection point is not accessible in the same room as the device controlled, Contractor shall provide a wireless system, to permit configuration, testing and operation.
    11. Include licensing for all software packages.

PART 3 – EXECUTION

  • PREPARATION

  1. Examine areas and conditions under which equipment is to be installed. Do not proceed with work until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected in manner acceptable to the Owner.
  2. INSTALLATION <Modify as required to match project design>
    1. Installation shall meet or exceed all applicable Federal, state and local requirements, referenced standards and conform to codes and ordinances of authorities having jurisdiction.
    2. All installations shall be in accordance with manufacturer’s published recommendations.
    3. <Set up workstations and printers as indicated on the Drawings. Coordinate with Design Drawings and Network Architecture Diagram> Install all software and verify that the systems are fully operational. Ensure <owner> licensing is provided for all software.
    4. No license, software component, key, etc. or any piece of information required for installing, configuring, operating, diagnosing and maintaining the system shall be withheld from the Owner. All software shall be licensed to <the Owner>.
    5. <Install electronic control system Operation and Maintenance Manuals, programming guides, network configuration tools, and control Shop Drawings etc. on each CSS. Provide interface or shortcuts to guide user to the appropriate information.>
    6. Set up portable operator terminal and configure it as the remote workstation. Install all software and verify that the system is fully operational.
    7. Deliver to the owner all server administration level user names and passwords established during initial server configuration and startup.
    8. Comply with all rules, guidelines and procedures defined by the owner’s IT authority.
