- DESIGN CRITERIA
4.1 The following information shall be included in the applicable equipment specification to coordinate with 4AEL-620300, Sections 4.10 and 4.11.
4.1.1 Terminal pads for compression connectors shall be provided in either 1-hole or NEMA 2-hole configurations.
NEMA 2-hole drilling patterns are detailed in NEMA Publication CC 1 paragraph 4.5 and Tables 4-1 through 4-8. The basic NEMA 2-hole drilling pattern is 9/16 inch hole diameters on 1 3/4 inch centers. For NEMA 2-hole patterns, the intended bolt or stud size is 1/2 inch diameter.
1-hole terminal pads for compression connectors shall be rated above the maximum applied current with a suitable stud or screw per the component manufacturer’s standard.
4.1.2 For cables #6 AWG and larger on circuits up to and including 600 volts, termination pads with 2-hole drillings are preferred when space permits. When physical restrictions preclude the use of these 2-hole connectors, pads with 1-hole drillings are acceptable. NEMA 2-hole lugs are available for AWG #2 cable and larger.
4.1.3 For cables smaller than AWG #2, if a 2-hole lug termination is required, non-NEMA 2-hole lugs are available and the specific lug drilling information for the termination pad must be included in the equipment specification.
4.1.4 For cables on circuits greater than 600 volts, NEMA 2-hole drillings on termination pads are always required. NEMA 2-hole long barrel compression lugs shall be used. The minimum cable size shall be AWG #2.
