For installation on existing CONCRETE WALL OPENINGS)
Blast Resistant Doors – Pressed Steel Frame – Installation, O&M Procedure
A- GENERAL INFORMATION
1st. This manual contains information regarding installation, operation, lubrication and maintenance of BLAST DOOR.
2nd. Said (BLAST) Door is MANUALLY OPERATED.
3rd. This instruction is to be used as a GUIDE for installation. All details contained in the SPECIFICATIONS and shop drawings are to be EXACTLY followed as shown. Only individual who is FULLY FAMILIAR with this instruction and having SUBSTANTIAL EXPERIENCE in the installation of similar door, shall be allowed to carry the installation.
4th. The FIELD SUPERVISOR shall assist in the initial installation of this door. This instruction shall not at any time replace any existing safety or specified construction procedures to be followed at the job site.
5th. The door and frame are shipped “knockdown” from the factory. The door hardware had already been factory-applied and tested prior to shipment. Any hardware subject to be damaged during shipping or installation is shipped and packaged SEPARATELY. The installer must refer to the As-Built Shop Drawings supplied with the doors to determine the correct installation tolerances, field welds, location, and description of items or work required to complete the installation.
6th. The door has been carefully aligned and is in excellent operational condition prior to shipping. Given proper handling and faithful compliance with installation instructions, only MINOR ADJUSTMENTS at the site should be necessary.
7th. This type of door shall be installed in CONCRETE WALL OPENINGS, PLUMBED and PROPERLY LEVELED.
8th. To NOT OPEN the door until the frames are securely anchored to the concrete wall. Safety measures shall be applied whenever INSTALLERS are working on either side of the door.
B- INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Begin the installation by selecting the door assembly and matching the opening as per the schedule.
2. Lift the door & frame to a vertical position using appropriate rigging and equipment. If required, a temporary lifting lug can be welded onto the doorframe as long as it will not damage any part of the door or its operating hardware once it is used or removed.
3. Once the door is positioned in the opening, use shims or wedges to hold it in place while making minor plumb and square adjustments. Note that while setting, it is SO IMPORTANT that the frame must be perfectly plumb.
a) Check to make sure that the FRAME is properly located on the concrete wall, once the door & the frame is plumbed.
b) Check for CLEARANCE around the perimeter of the frame and the threshold (if any) of the frame’s sill.
4. Once the doors & frames are provided with enough bracing, drill the hole to the required depth.
Drilling should be done in one single operation if possible. Remove the drilling debris from the hole whenever there is a risk that it will prevent from penetrating to its minimum anchorage depth.
5. Insert the anchors in the hole and drive it home with a hammer if necessary.
6. Tighten to the necessary torque using a torque wrench.
7. Make sure that all operating mechanisms inside the door can move FREELY. All tapes and Factory-applied shipping materials must be REMOVED from the operating mechanism.
8. Check for EASE of OPERATION:
1) Operate LOCK and DOOR PANELS to check for MISALIGNMENT and BINDING.
2) Turn the key on either side to check the opening of the door. IF THE KEY DOES NOT TURN/OPERATE EASILY, DO NOT APPLY EXCESSIVE FORCE, contact us for technical assistance.
3) Close the door once opened and check its ALIGNMENT.
4) Correct as needed.
9. Check for APPEARANCE:
1) Clean installation area; grind down all rough edges and welds.
2) Apply TOUCH-UP paint as required.
C- OPERATING PROCEDURE
The following procedure and information are applicable for the MANUAL (BLAST) DOOR.
1. Door: is equipped with latching mechanism on one side only. DO NOT OPERATE LOCKING MECHANISM WHEN DOORS ARE IN THE OPEN POSITION.
2. Door: is equipped with pull handle. The INACTIVE LEAF of Pairs of door is equipped with pull handle only and concealed manual flush bolt on top and bottom of the leaf.
• The ACTIVE LEAF must be opened first and closed LAST.
3. Safety Precautions:
• Always make sure that the area in the immediate vicinity of door travel is CLEAR of obstructions.
• Areas contacted by SEALS must be continually kept free of debris and dirt.
• Caution must be exercised to make sure that the door is NOT closed when the latching mechanism is extended.
D- MAINTENANCE
The following maintenance instruction is NOT INTENDED to replace or supersede any maintenance and inspection programs that may be in effect on the site where the door is in use.
1. All operating points of the door should be checked after 1 (one) month of operation for wear of binding.
2. Periodic inspection must be set up at 6 months intervals (MAX) to check for possible malfunctions in the door.
3. Painted areas must be checked periodically and any damaged areas repainted.
CAUTION: DO NOT PAINT ANY MOVING PARTS.
4. Hinge bearings are lubricated at assembly and need no further lubrication.
5. Locking mechanisms may require a light spraying of lubricant (in case of “sticking” or un workability)
