Blast / Security Doors Installation, O&M Procedure
A- General Information
1st. This manual contains information regarding installation, operation, lubrication and maintenance of (BLAST/SECURITY) DOORS.
2nd. Said (BLAST/SECURITY) Doors are MANUALLY OPERATED
3rd. This instruction manual is to be used as a GUIDE for installation. All details contained in the shop drawings are to be followed EXACTLY as shown. Only a technician, who is fully familiar with below instructions and having with SUBSTANTIAL EXPERIENCE in the installation of similar doors, shall be allowed to carry the installation.
4th. The FIELD SUPERVISOR shall assist in the initial installation of this door. This instruction manual shall not at any time replace any existing local safety requirements or specified construction procedures to be followed at the job site.
5th. DO NOT OPEN until the frames are securely anchored to the concrete wall. Safety measures shall be applied whenever INSTALLERS are working on either side of the door.
6th. The doors are shipped from the factory installed in the frames. The basic door hardware has already been factory applied and tested prior to shipment. At the completion of factory testing, the doors are LOCKED in the closed position and temporary SHIMS are applied in the gaps between the door and frame. IMPORTANT WARNING: THE DOORS MUST BE LEFT IN THE CLOSED POSITION WITH ALL SHIMS IN PLACE UNTIL THE DOOR HAS BEEN SECURELY ANCHORED TO THE CONCRETE WALL AND GROUTED IN PLACE. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THIS WARNING WILL AUTOMATICALLY VOID ALL WARRANTIES, AND MAY CAUSE SEVERE INJURY TO PERSONS INVOLVED IN THE INSTALLATION. Any hardware that might be subject to damage during shipping or installation has been packed SEPARATELY. The installer must refer to the As-built shop drawings supplied with the doors in order to determine the correct installation tolerances, field welds, location, and description of items or work required to complete the installation.
7th. All AL KUHAIMI doors have been carefully aligned and are in excellent operational condition prior to shipping. Given proper handling and faithful compliance with installation instructions, only MINOR ADJUSTMENTS at the site should be necessary.
B- Installation Procedure
1. Begin the installation by SELECTING THE DOOR ASSEMBLY and matching the opening per the schedule.
2. Lift the door to a vertical position using appropriate rigging and equipment.
IF required, a TEMPORARY lifting lug can be welded onto the door frame as long as it will not damage any part of the door or its operating hardware once it is used or removed.
3. The HINGE SIDE of the door must be PERFECTLY PLUMB to within 1/32 (one-thirty seconds) of an inch for the door to swing properly. Note that while setting, it is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to plumb the HINGE SIDE of the door.
a) Check to make sure that the FRAME is properly located on the HINGED SIDE of the concrete wall, once the door & frame are plumbed.
b) Check for CLEARANCE around the perimeter of the frame and at the threshold of the frame’s sill.
(For CAST IN PLACE installation)
4. Once the door is in positioned, weld the 016 deformed steel bars fangs to the steel reinforcement provided on the opening of the wall. Provide enough BRACING to support the assembly prior to concrete pouring.
Steel or wooden FORMS to be provided on ALL SIDES of the frame. Check for PLUMBNESS during the course of pouring.
The door can be opened only after the concrete has been dried and cured. If the door does not open there might be some concrete sippage in the Top Bolt. Jar the Top Bolt portion by a hammer and simultaneously open the door.
(For Existing R.C. Wall w/ Sub-Frame installation)
(For Existing R.C. Wall w/ Sub-Frame installation)
4. Once the door is in positioned, provide enough BRACING to support the assembly. Start applying temporary tack welds between the frame and embedded sub-frame along the hinged side of the frame. Use filler strips between the frame and sub-frame if necessary when the vertical surface of the sub-frame varies from plumb. Use shims or wedges to hold it in place while making minor plumb and
square adjustments Then, apply final welding as indicated until the frame has been securely welded to the sub-frame. Check the plumbness as the welding proceeds.
(For Existing R.C. Wall installation)
4. Provide enough BRACING to support the assembly. When the assembly are correctly positioned drill a suitable hole for the stud anchor on the wall directly to the holes provided on the frame.
After drilling all the holes insert the anchor bolts starting on the hinge side and tights the bolts from top to bottom. Use filler strips between the frame and wall if necessary. Use shims or wedges to hold it in place while making minor plumb and square adjustments Check for plumbness as the tightening of bolts proceeds.
5. Remove all factory applied shipping shims and fasteners.
6. Make sure that all operating mechanisms inside the door can move FREELY. All tape and factory-applied shipping materials must be REMOVED from the operating mechanism.
7. Check for EASE of OPERATION.
a) Operate LATCHES and DOOR PANEL to check for MISALIGNMENT and BINDING.
b) Carefully push on the panic bar or turn the outside door handle to open the door. IF
THE HANDLE OR PANIC BAR DOES NOT MOVE EASILY, DO NOT APPLY EXCESSIVE FORCE, contact us for technical assistance.
c) When the togging pins are retracted, push or pull the door open. USE EXTREME CAUTION while opening the door.
d) Close the door once opened and check the ALIGNMENT OF THE DOOR.
e) Correct as needed
8. Check for APPEARANCE.
1) Clean installation area; grind down all rough edges and welds.
2) Apply TOUCH-UP paint as required.
C- OPERATING PROCEDURE
The following procedures and information are supplied for the operation of MANUAL (BLAST/SECURITY) DOORS.
1. Doors are equipped with latching mechanism on ONE SIDE ONLY.DO NOT OPERATE LOCKING MECHANISM WHEN DOORS ARE IN THE OPEN POSITION.
2. Single Swing Doors are equipped with handles on the exterior side and a handle or panic bar on the interior side.
• The KEY LOCK is on the EXTERIOR and LATCHING is on the INTERIOR.
• Turning the INTERIOR HANDLE or activating the PANIC BAR will open the door if the EXTERIOR SIDE is locked.
• The KEY LOCK is on the EXTERIOR and LATCHING is on the INTERIOR.
3. Double Swing Doors are equipped with handles and / or panic bars on the ACTIVE LEAF.
The INACTIVE LEAF has a handle on the EXTERIOR SURFACE and concealed tower and drop bolt.
• The ACTIVE LEAF must be opened first and closed LAST.
• Turning the interior handle or activating the panic bar on the active leaf will open the leaf even if the exterior is locked.
4. Safety Precautions
• Always make sure that the area in the immediate vicinity of door travel is CLEAR of obstructions.
• Areas contacted by SEALS must be continually kept free of debris and dirt.
• Caution must be exercised to make sure that the door is NOT closed when the latching mechanism is extended. To avoid this the lever handle must be rotated in its full rotation.
D- MAINTENANCE
The following maintenance instruction is NOT INTENDED to replace or supersede any maintenance and inspection programs that may be in effect on the site where doors are in use.
1. All operating points of the door should be checked after 1 (one) month of operation for wear of binding.
2. Periodic inspection must be set up at 6 month intervals (MAX), to check for possible malfunctions in the door.
3. Painted areas must be checked periodically and any damaged areas repainted.
CAUTION: DO NOT PAINT ANY MOVING PARTS.
4. Hinge bearings are lubricated at assembly and need no further lubrication.
5. Latching mechanisms may require a light spray of lubricant (in case of “sticking” or un workability).
