This article is to guide the responsible persons (like Electrical Engineer) in conducting Circuit Breaker Fail (CBF) Protection Relay (50/62) Commissioning test procedure.
Testing and commissioning a Circuit Breaker Fail (CBF) Protection Relay (50/62) is essential to ensure the reliable operation of circuit breakers and prevent potential failures that could lead to widespread outages or equipment damage.
Test Equipment: Universal Test Set like FREEJA/OMICRON etc, Digital Multimeter; Test Plug.
Safety Precautions: The following Safety precautions shall be taken in consideration prior, during and after conducting the test measurements.
- Safety tagging shall be implemented.
- Isolate the Area by Safety Warning Tape.
- Keep a Safe Distance from the device being tested.
- Wear Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment(PPE) Prior to starting any testing activity.
- Implementation of Proper Grounding.
Circuit Breaker Fail (CBF) Protection Relay Test Procedure.
- Perform General Visual Inspection & Check CBF Relay Indications.
- Check Pick up / Drop Off and Timing Test as per Commissioning Manual.
- Check all measurements for all phases.
- Check all settings for CBF protection and its conditions as per approved schematic drawing.
- Check CB status and its function and logic if applicable.
- Check Circuit Breaker Fail (CBF) for mechanical protection initiate low current mode in the relay if applicable for power transformer.
- Check Circuit Breaker Fail (CBF) initiate conditions as per approved schematic drawing & Check transfer trip facility in CBF protection for feeder.
- Check phase segregated initiation if applicable (for single pole CB).
- All Binary Inputs and Binary Outputs / LED configuration to be checked asper approved scheme.
The Following must be done after Testing:
