Installation of Instruments and Tubing
Ensure that all drawings, standards, and applicable specifications are the latest revision including Fabrication and Erection specification.
Use the latest revision to the instrument summary to determine loose instruments to be shipped to field. Note: this is an information guide only. Contract scope is as shown on the installation drawings and construction documents.
Contract Instrument Location Drawings show an approximate location and the contractor shall not mount instruments in a manner that obstructs the operation or maintenance of equipment.
All instruments and control devices installed shall be adequately supported even if a specific support detail is not shown on the contract drawings. Items such as regulators and solenoids may not be installed in tubing runs unless they are independently supported.
Instruments need to be verified per the Instrument Specifications, function checked and calibrated prior to final loop check and acceptance.
Remove soft seat trim and whisper trim from vent valves and other valves used to blow down lines.
Tube fittings are Swagelok or Parker A-Lok and contractor understands the installation procedure as recommended by manufacturer. Invite local fitting representative to perform site training of all contractor instrument fitters and document the training. Keep for Qualification Assurance and Quality Control records. During the construction period when instruments and tubing are being installed, ensure that the openings are sealed from the elements and cleanliness maintained.
Instrument Air (I/A) tubing shall have a local shut off valve at the instrument or control valve.
Confirm that all wet air signal lines, such as the main air compressor discharge, have knockout pots and where specified heat tracing and insulation.
Route tubing and supports to avoid obstructing operation, maintenance or removal of equipment, instruments and panels. Walkways, platforms, ladders and stairs shall not be obstructed in any manner. Contractor should obtain approval from the Air Products representative before routing any instrument tubing. When routing process tubing care shall be taken to eliminate dead legs.
