How to Replace Vibration Probe – Procedure Probe Replacement
In order to replace the proximity probe, perform the following:.
1. Unscrew dome cover from housing, remove tape or encapsulant from probe connector and separate the connection; bend tab on locking washer, losses jam nut, and unscrew sleeve.
2. Unscrew probe from sleeve (turn probe cable with probe) and remove probe. If necessary, heat the probe thread area of the sleeve to soften the thread locking compound (Tmax = 175 deg C, 350 deg F).
3. Install “O-ring” on replacement probe, insert probe cable into sleeve, apply Lockquic primer T and Loctite No. 40 retaining compound to probe threads in accordance with their instructions, and thread probe into sleeve until “O-ring” contacts sleeve. Continue tightening probe 1/2 to 3/4 turn.
4. Complete installation using Steps 6 through 8 of installation paragraph.
Warning: A probe assembly having a long sleeve (12 inch from housing to probe tip) may require support at the probe end to prevent excessive lateral vibration.

Dual Probe Assembly, BNC Catalog Number 18146-XX
The Bently Nevada dual probe assembly (Figure 18) is a self-enclosed unit which contains a velocity pickup and proximity probe, designed for mounting o a machine bearing cap or support.
Refer to Figure 18 for the following installation information.
1. Remove cover from housing, loosen sleeve jam nut and unscrew the sleeve with flat washer and jam nut.
2. Do not remove probe from sleeve unless the probe is to be replaced. See “Probe Replacement” for correct procedures.
3. Apply nonmetallic anti-seize thread compound to the 3/4 inch and 1 inch threads.
4. Install housing into machine case.
5. Install conduit to 3/4 inch NPT threaded hole; install extension cable and 2-wire shielded cable through conduit (the 2-wire shielded cable must be terminated at the housing via an “MS” male type connector). Connect the “MS” male connector to the female “MS” connector on the velocity pickup. Do not connect extension cable to the probe at this time.
6. Carefully hand turn the sleeve (with probe, flat washer and jam nut) into the housing. Slow probe cable to turn with the sleeve to prevent cable damage. Do not allow probe tip to accumulate any three compound or foreign conductive material during installation because signal error may result. Adjust gap in accordance with the preceding probe installation section.
7. Secure the sleeve in correct probe gap position with jam nut.
8. Connect the probe to extension cable. Install a connector protector or the connectors can be wrapped with Teflon® tape, covered with a shrinkable tubing or encapsulated with RTV or similar sealant that does not have an acetic acid base.
In order to replace the proximity probe perform the following:
1. Remove cover from housing, separate the connector protector or remove tape or encapsulant from probe connector and separate the connection; loosen jam nut and unscrew sleeve.
2. Unscrew probe from sleeve (turn probe cable with probe) and remove. If necessary, heat the probe thread area of the sleeve to soften the thread locking compound (Tmax = 175 deg C, 350 deg F).
3. Install “O-ring” on replacement probe, insert probe cable into sleeve, apply Lockquic primer T and Loctite Number 40 retaining compound to probe threads in accordance with their instruction and thread probe into sleeve until “O-ring” contact sleeve. Tighten prove to 0.8 kg-metres (70-80 in lbs.) or torque.
4. Complete installation using steps 6 through 8 of installation paragraph.
