UPS/DC Valve Regulated Lead-Acid (VRLA) Gelatin Cell
Review documents for Valve Regulated Lead-Acid (VRLA) Gelatin Cells Material Receiving.
Identification procedure reviewed and implemented for Valve Regulated Lead-Acid (VRLA) Gelatin Cells.
Material identification shall be implemented for all materials, parts and components, including partially fabricated assemblies. Valve Regulated Lead-Acid (VRLA) Gelatin Cells shall be identified by using tags, stamps, color coding, stencils or labels. The location and method of identification shall not affect the function or quality of the material.
The CONTRACTOR shall include procedures for handling, storage and preservation of Valve Regulated Lead-Acid (VRLA) Gelatin Cells as specified in all applicable specifications, manufacturer recommendations and SAUDI Aramco’s standards.
The procedure shall list all inspection schedules for maintaining the quality of the Valve Regulated Lead-Acid (VRLA) Gelatin Cells as well as provide for documentation that the required activities have been performed.
General Requirements
Documentation for traceability reviewed and implemented. Valve Regulated Lead-Acid (VRLA) Gelatin Cells shall be traceable from the manufacturer and supplier through delivery, storage, fabrication, erection, installation, repair, modification and use.
Documented Control System shall be implemented for all Saudi Aramco supplied material and equipment.
Individuals responsible for special handling, storage and preservation shall be fully qualified to do so, and supplied with predetermined WORK and inspection instructions.
The CONTRACTOR shall provide documentation that the required Storage, Handling and Preservation (SHP) activities have been performed for Valve Regulated Lead-Acid (VRLA) Gelatin Cells.
Material Inspection
Review Identification and Traceability procedures for Valve Regulated Lead-Acid (VRLA) Gelatin Cells.
Review Storage, Handling and Preservation procedure documentation for Valve Regulated Lead-Acid (VRLA) Gelatin Cells.
Purchase order and Data Sheet criteria shall be confirmed and compared with Valve Regulated Lead-Acid (VRLA) Gelatin Cells documentation, and checked for damage, prior to acceptance of shipment.
Storage & Preservation
Storage and Handling areas should be equipped with Eyewashes & Safety Showers.

“Provide Spill or Leak Procedures. Stop flow of material.
NFPA 70, NEC 110-3 (B) & MSDS”
“Contain small spills with dry sand, earth and vermiculite. Do not use combustible materials. If possible neutralize spilled electrolyte with soda ash, lime or sodium bicarbonate.
NFPA 70, NEC 110-3 (B) & MSDS”
The shelf life and charge retention shall be a minimum of 6 months at 35°C. The available capacity at the end of this time period shall not be less than 75% of the rated capacity. The cell must recharge to at least 80% of the rated capacity within eight hours.
Waste Disposal
“Place neutralized slurry in sealed containers and dispose of hazardous waste as applicable.
NFPA 70, NEC 110-3 (B) & MSDS”
“Large water diluted spills after neutralization and testing should be managed according to local codes.
NFPA 70, NEC 110-3 (B) & MSDS”
Shipping & Transportation
Valve-regulated cells and modules shall be shipped in a fully charged condition.
Individual cells shall be packed to provide protection against physical damage and moisture.
Shipping crates shall be marked with handling and storage instructions. Labels on the shipping crate shall state the storage conditions, date of shipment, and the date beyond which the product must not be stored.
“Each complete battery system shall be provided with instruction manual(s) including the following information as a minimum. The required number of sets shall be as specified in the Purchase Order.
a. Certified battery capacity test report of VRLA batteries conducted at the factory in accordance with IEEE 1188. The test report shall document the performance of the battery bank and each individual cell just prior to the shipment of the battery. Factory testing is not required for flooded lead-acid and nickel-cadmium batteries.
b. Installation & commissioning instructions
c. Required purity of the topping-up water and the electrolyte
d. Operating instructions
e. Maintenance instructions and the required maintenance schedule
f. Testing instructions and the recommended frequency of tests
g. Clearly identified warnings shall be provided in the documentation for conditions where improper action by an operator would create a safety hazard or damage the battery and associated equipment.”
If batteries are to be delivered to the Buyer in a fully charged condition, the Vendor shall recommend a method of maintaining the battery in charged condition until the battery is commissioned. Detailed instructions & required equipment shall be provided for dry charged batteries requiring on-site activation.
