WELDING TERMS AND DEFINATIONS
-
- A union between materials caused by heat and (or) Pressure is called a weld.
- A configuration of member is called a JOINT.
- Combination of two types of weld is called a Compound Weld.
- Actual Thickness = Design Throat Thickness + Excess Weld Metal.
- The relation between Design Throat Thickness and Leg Length isa = 0.707×Z,
Z = 1.41× a,
Where,
a = Design Throat Thickness,
Z = Leg length.
- For deep penetration, Design Throat Thickness is denoted by “S” instead of “a”.
- Concave Fillet is preferred for joints subjected to Fatigue Loading.
- If angel between plates is, 30° Edge joint 30-135 Corner joint 135-180 Butt joint
- If a weld is formed without using a filler material then that weld is called Autogenous Weld.
- Weld Joint between same parent material and Weld Material is called Homogenous Weld Joint
- Weld Joint between same parent material and different Weld Material is called Heterogeneous Weld Joint.
- Weld Joint between different parent material and different Weld Material is called Transition or Dissimilar Weld Joint.
- The boundary between Weld Metal and H.A.Z is called Fusion Boundary.
- Included Angel of Single V- Preparation is 70 degree.
- Vertical -Up (PF) position is Highest Heat Input Position.
- Vertical -Down (PG) position is Lowest Heat Input Position.
