Communication Tower Installation and Commissioning Checklist

This article is about Communication Tower Installation and Commissioning of OSP Telecom Distribution System as per International Codes and standards.

Communication Tower Installation and Commissioning Checklist

Installation

  1. Verify that all fabricated steel sections are match-marked for field assembly with designating numbers or letters corresponding to the field erection drawings.
  2. Ensure that the towers material does not contain hollow tubular steel members as part of their structure.
  3. Verify that all anchor rods are fusion bonded epoxy coated to eliminate corrosion. The coating shall be 500 to 625 micrometers (20 to 25 mils) dry film thickness.
  4. Verify that the outer ground ring composed a minimum of #2 AWG (35 mm²) solid tinned copper wire and buried not less than 0.8 m (2.5 feet) below grade level and at least 0.6 m (2 feet) outside foundation and tower footings.
  5. Verify that all tower legs and anchors are bonded to form a grounding electrode system, which shall be bonded to the building grounding system per SAES-T-887 and Standard Drawing AA-036391.
  6. Verify that each tower leg and anchor is identified with labels. The labels shall be located in a clear location such as the bottom of the tower and top of anchor.
  7. Verify that alternate sections of aviation orange and aviation white paint is used on the tower to provide maximum visibility of an obstruction by contrast in colors.
  8. Verify that Lighting units meets the specified intensities, beam patterns, color, and flash rates specified in FAA AC 150/5345-43, except where modified by SAES-B.063.
  9. Verify that Flashing red beacons and steady-burning obstruction lights is installed to be used during the hours of darkness, during periods of limited daylight illuminance and/or reduced meteorological visibility.
  10. Verify that double obstruction lights (L-810) are installed horizontally at regular intervals at or near the top of tower that is 60 m AGL or less.
  11. Verify that (PVC) conduit is used for physical protection of a ground wire.
  12. Ensure that the ground resistance of the grounding electrode system not exceed 2 ohms for Communications Tower(s).

Precommissioning

Verify that all Pre-Commissioning Phase Quality Control Activities are complied.
