Telecommunications Closet (TC)

  1. Verify that the size of the constructed TC is as per the approved IFC drawings or as a minimum it is 3.0 m X 2.2 m, (10 X 7 ft) if the serving area is 500 m² (5000 ft²) or less. .
  2. Verify that the size of the constructed TC is as per the approved IFC drawings or as a minimum it is 3.0 m X 2.8 m, (10 X 9 ft) if the serving area is Larger than 500 m² and less than or equal to 800 m². (>5,000 ft² to < 8,000 ft²)” .
  3. Verify that the size of the constructed TC is as per the approved IFC drawings or as a minimum it is 3.0 m X 3.4 m, (10ft X 11 ft) if the serving area is Larger than 800 m² and less than or equal to 1000 m² (>8,000 ft² to < 10,000 ft²) .
  4. Ensure that buildings larger than 100 m² (1076 ft²) in size (usable office space) shall have a telecommunication closet as a minimum space requirement.
  5. Verify that a closet shall not be placed in a manner which requires access through a locked room (s).
  6. Verify that TCs are placed in the core area of multi-level building so that they are arrange directly above and below connecting TCs.
  7. Verify that telecommunication closets and rooms are not located where there is a threat from flooding.
  8. Telecommunication closets and rooms shall not have water lines, drains, etc., located inside the room or in the over head ceiling
  9. Shall Verify that the TC location is not more than 6 m (20 ft) away from an approved ground source when the closet is to be used to accommodate the entrance cable and protected terminal .
  10. Verify that the location of the TC allow the horizontal cable runs not to exceed the 90 m (295 ft) limit.

Telecommunication Equipment Room (TER)

The TER size; verify that the room size provide a minimum 0.07 m² space for every 10 m² of Individual Work Area (IWA). The minimum size for a telecommunication equipment room shall not be less 14 m² regardless of the number of IWAs.

Verify that the equipment room locations that restrict or limit expansion is being avoided.

Verify that the location of the TER is free of water infiltration, steam infiltration, humidity from nearby water or steam, Heat (e.g., equipment, direct sunlight) and any other corrosive atmospheric or environmental conditions.

Telecommunication Equipment Room (TER)

Verify that TER is not located next to electrical devices or equipment that can cause Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) such as (e.g., copiers, door openers, elevator systems, factory equipment).

Verify that the location for a TER is not adjacent to as per BICSI TDMM Manual: Chapter 7:
• Boiler rooms
• Washrooms
• Janitor closets
• Any space that contains:
– Steam pipes
– Drains
– Clean-outs
