Elastomeric Joint sealant Classification

For classification of sealants, see Table I.

1. Single-Component Nonsag Polysulfide Sealant (ES-P1):

Where joint sealants of this type are indicated, products shall comply with the following:

a. Products: Deck-O-Seal One Step; W.R. Meadows, Inc., or approved equal

b. Type and Grade: S and NS
c. Class: 25
d. Use Related to Exposure: NT
e. Uses Related to Joint Substrates: M, G, A, and, as applicable to joint substrates indicated, O
f. Application: As indicated on the drawings

2. Multicomponent Nonsag Polysulfide Sealant (ES-P2):

Where joint sealants of this type are indicated, products shall comply with the following:

a. Products: Two-Part Sealant; Sonneborn Building Products Div., ChemRex Inc., or approved equal.
b. Type and Grade: M and NS.
c. Class: 25.
d. Use Related to Exposure: T and NT.
e. Uses Related to Joint Substrates: M, G, A, and, as applicable to joint substrates indicated, O.
f. Applications: As indicated on drawings.

3. Nonacid-Curing Silicone Sealant (ES-S1):

Where joint sealants of this type are indicated, products shall comply with the following:

a. Products: Omniseal; Sonneborn Building Products Div., ChemRex Inc., or approved equal.
b. Type and Grade: S and NS.
c. Class: 25.

d. Additional Movement Capability: 100 percent movement in extension and 50 percent movement in compression for a total of 150 percent movement
e. Use Related to Exposure: NT
f. Uses Related to Joint Substrates: M, G, A, and, as applicable to joint substrates indicated, O
g. Applications: As indicated on drawings

4. Acid-Curing Silicone Sealant (ES-S2):

Where joint sealants of this type are indicated, products shall comply with the following:

a. Products: OmniPlus; Sonneborn Building Products Div., ChemRex Inc., or SABIC approved equal.
b. Type and Grade: S and NS.
c. Class: 25.
d. Use Related to Exposure: NT.
e. Uses Related to Joint Substrates: G, A, and, as applicable to joint substrates indicated, O.
f. Applications: As indicated on drawings.

5.  Mildew-Resistant Silicone Sealant (ES-S3):

Where joint sealants of this type are indicated, products that are intended for sealing interior ceramic tile joints, and other nonporous substrates that are subject to in-service exposures of high humidity and temperature extremes shall be formulated with fungicide, and shall comply with the following:

a. Products: 898 Silicone Sanitary Sealant; Pecora Corporation, or approved equal.
b. Type and Grade: S and NS.
c. Class: 25.
d. Use Related to Exposure: NT.
e. Uses Related to Joint Substrates: G, A, and, as applicable to joint substrates indicated, O.
f. Applications: As indicated on drawings.

6.  Multicomponent Nonsag Urethane Sealant (ES-U1):

Where joint sealants of this type are indicated, products shall comply with the following:

a. Products: Sikaflex – 2c NS; Sika Corporation or approved equal.
b. Type and Grade: M and NS.
c. Class: 25.
d. Additional Movement Capability: 50 percent movement in extension and 50 percent in compression for a total of 100 percent movement
e. Use Related to Exposure: NT
f. Uses Related to Joint Substrates: M, A, and, as applicable to joint substrates indicated, O
g. Applications: As indicated on drawings

7. Single-Component Nonsag Urethane Sealant (ES-U2):

Where joint sealants of this type are indicated, products shall comply with the following:

a. Products Sikaflex – 1a; Sika Corporation, or approved equal
b. Type and Grade: S and NS
c. Class: 25

d. Uses Related to Exposure: T and NT
e. Uses Related to Joint Substrates: M, G, A, and, as applicable to joint substrates indicated, O
f. Applications: as indicated on drawings

Latex Joint-sealant Schedule

Latex Sealant (LS-L1): Where joint sealants of this type are indicated, products shall comply with the following:

Products: Sonolac; Sonneborn Building Products Div., ChemRex, Inc., or approved equal.

Applications: Interior use only.

Acoustical Joint-sealant Schedule

Acoustical Sealant for Exposed and Concealed Joints (ACS-A1): Where joint sealants of this type are indicated, products shall comply with the following:

a. Products: Sheetrock Acoustical Sealant; USG Corp., United States Gypsum Co., or approved equal
b. Applications: Where indicated on drawings for sound control Table I.
