Horizontal Distribution Conduit System Installation

  1. Verify that for conduits that serve one (1) box, an inside diameter of 1.9 cm. (3/4 in.) or greater is required.
  2. Verify that ceiling tiles are removable.
  3. Verify that the height of ceiling tiles are no greater than 3.4 m (11 ft) above the finished floor.
  4. Verify that conduit runs in the most direct route possible (usually parallel to building lines), with no more than two 90° bends between pull points or pull boxes.
  5. Verify that conduit runs contain no 90° condulets (also known as LB).
  6. Verify that conduit runs contain no continuous sections longer than 30 m (100 ft).
  7. For conduit runs that total more than 30 m (100 ft) in length, ensure that pull points or pull boxes are inserted so that no segment between points/boxes exceeds the 30 m (100 ft) limit.
  8. Verify that conduit do not runs on top of cellular floor cells.
  9. Verify that conduit do not runs crosswise to cellular floor cells.
  10. Verify that conduit do not runs through areas in which flammable material may be stored or handled (Hazardous Classified Area).
  11. Verify that conduit do not runs over or adjacent to:
    – Boilers.
    – Incinerators.
    – Hot water lines.
    – Steam lines.”
  12. Verify that aluminum or thin-walled plastic conduit are not placed in concrete floors
  13. Verify that the proper capacity for cabling, a one inch (27mm ID) conduit from a terminal or telecommunications room shall not serve more than one information oulet in offices.
  14. Ensure that conduit bends is long, sweeping bends and shall have a minimum bending radius of ten (10) times the internal conduit diameter.
  15. Verify if a conduit run requires more than two 90° bends, a pull box between sections with 2 bends or less is provided.
  16. Verify that all ends of metallic conduit are reamed and bushed.
  17. Verify if a conduit run requires more than two 90° bends between pull points or pull boxes, then de-rate the design capacity by 15% or use the next larger size of conduit.
  18. Bushings shall be placed on the ends of metallic conduit to protect cable sheaths from damage.
  19. Verify that each conduit that enters a TC is terminated near the left corner of the closet to allow for proper cable racking and splicing.
  20. Verify that each conduit that enters a TC is terminated 10 cm (4 in.) above the finished floor.
  21. Verify that each conduit that enters a TC is reamed or bushed and terminated as close as possible to the wall where the backboard is mounted (to minimize the cable route inside the room).
  22. Ensure that all conduits are:
    • Clean, dry, and unobstructed.
    • Capped for protection.
    • Labeled for identification and sealed to comply with firestop requirements. .
    • All conduits (end to end) are equipped with a plastic or nylon pull line that has a minimum test rating of 90 kilograms (200 pounds). The end of each pull line shall be secured to avoid loosing the end section.”
  23. Verify that ceiling conduits and cabling are suspended from or attached to the structural ceiling or walls with hardware or other installation aids specifically designed to support their weight.
  24. Verify that the ceiling conduit runs have adequate support to withstand pulling the cables.
  25. Verify that the ceiling conduit runs is located 15 cm (6 in.) to 30 cm (12 in.) above the T-bar and have clear vertical space.
  26. Verify that the ceiling conduit runs have a minimum of 8 cm (3 in.) of clear vertical space from conduits, wires, and cables.
  27. Verify that the ceiling conduit runs and cables are not resting directly on ceiling panels, framework (T-bars), vertical supports, or other components of the suspended ceiling.
  28. Verify that the minimum required clearance is maintained between the conduit to avoid electromagnetic interference (EMI). Clearances chall be:
    • 1,2 m (4 ft) from large motors or transformers.
    • 0.3 m (1 ft) from conduit and cables used for electrical power distribution (220, 120 volts)
    • 12 cm (5 in.) from fluorescent lighting. Pathways should cross perpendicular to fluorescent lighting and electrical power cables or conduits.
