Cellular And Underfloor Duct System Installation for Telecom System

This article is about Checklist and Inspection Points of Cellular And Underfloor Duct System Installation for Building Premises Distribution System as per International Codes and Standards.

Cellular And Underfloor Duct System Installation for Telecommunication System

Cellular And Underfloor Duct System Installation

  1. Verify that the installed underfloor duct systems is made up of:
    • Feeder (header) ducts, which carry cables from the TC or work area outlet boxes to the distribution ducts.
    • Distribution ducts, which distribute wires and cables from a feeder duct to specific floor areas.”
  2. Verify that installed distribution ducts have preset inserts between 61 cm (2 ft) to 92 cm (3 ft) centers.
  3. Verify that junction boxes are provided where feeder and distribution ducts intersect as per standard codes BICSI, TDMM, 11th Edition, Chapter 5.
  4. Verify that junction boxes are installed where they are fully accessible from floor area below and safe for cable installations and changes.
  5. Verify that a maximum space of 18 m (60 ft) between junction boxes and other access points is maintained.
  6. Verify that the installed feeder duct capacity is adequate for the area it will serve.
  7. Verify that preset inserts are spaced at regular intervals, with insert markers approximately every 15 m (50 ft).”
  8. “Ensure that the distribution duct system installation is such that horizontal cables extending from the termination in the TC to the outlet are not more than 90 m (295 ft) long.”
  9. Verify that distribution duct is installed and centered between building module lines (space between the joists).
  10. Verify that spacing of the ducts is either in the center of each building module (space between joists) or at 1.5 m (5 ft) to 1.8 m (6 ft) intervals. The maximum interval for distribution duct spacing shall be six (6) feet.
  11. Verify that distribution ducts are placed parallel to the longest outside walls.
  12. Verify that a single run of distribution duct is located 5 m to 6 m. (16 ft to 20 ft) centers, starting at a point 1.2 m to 3 m (4 ft to 10 ft) from the outside wall.
  13. Verify that the installed distribution duct system is with preset inserts type, between 61-cm (2 ft) to 92 cm (3 ft) centers.
  14. Verify that feeder and distribution ducts are physically linked to a TR either directly or through no more than one feeder duct.
  15. Verify that TR shall not be inter linked or connected by making a transition in the floor feeder duct to an overhead arrangement of tray duct or conduit.
  16. Verify that the horizontal cables from the feeder duct in the TR to the telecommunications outlet/connector are no more than 90 M (295 ft) long as per standard BICSI TDMM Manual, 11th Edition, Chapter 5.
  17. Verify if the feeder ducts enter the TC and passes within the closet floor slab, then duct elbow fittings should be installed to terminate the ducts at the plywood lined wall.
  18. To maintain sufficient floor duct capacity the, ensure that a maximum length of distribution floor duct shall not exceed 20m (60 ft).
  19. Verify that in carpeted areas, all junction boxes must be accessible through carpet openings.
  20. Verify that carpet openings are firmly secured and not loose so as to impede pedestrian traffic or cause a safety hazard to pedestrians.
