Square “D” Ducting System Installation

  1. Verify that ceiling ducting system locations is coordinated with lighting, air handling systems, fire extinguishing systems, etc., so that trays will not obstruct or impede system operation.
  2. Verify that horizontal ducting system, and cabling are suspended from or attached to the structural ceiling or walls with hardware or other installation aids specifically designed to support their weight.
  3. Verify that horizontal ducting system and cables are not resting directly on ceiling panels, framework (T-bars), vertical supports, or other components of the suspended ceiling.
  4. Verify that the horizontal ducting system is located 15 cm (6 in.) to 30 cm (12 in.) above the T-bar and have clear vertical space.
  5. Verify that the horizontal ducting system have a minimum of 8 cm (3 in.) of clear vertical space from conduits, wires, and cables.
  6. Verify that the inside of a horizontal ducting system is free of burrs, sharp edges, or projections which can damage cable insulation.
  7. Verify that horizontal ducting system is not used to distribute telecommunications and power cables together.
  8. Verify that horizontal ducting system are not installed in ceiling areas (lock tiles, drywall or plaster) that are inaccessible..
  9. Verify the use of proper support for the horizontal ducting system by installing cantilever, trapeze and individual rod suspension brackets.
  10. Verify that supports are placed so that connections between sections of the horizontal ducting system are between the support point and the quarter section of the span. A support shall also be placed within 0.6 m (2 ft) on each side of any connection to a fitting.
  11. Verify that horizontal ducting system fills is not exceeding the manufactures listed capacity for the installed cable tray.
  12. Verify that metallic horizontal ducting system are bonded together and grounded to an approved ground source.
  13. Verify that square ducting system is marked and identified as specified by EIA TIA-606, “The Administration Standard for the Telecommunications Infrastructure of Commercial Buildings”.
  14. Verify that the ducting system enters the TC in such a way that it does not block or cover other equipment and cabling.
  15. Verify that the ducting system is secured mechanically or anchored so that movement does not occur during installation of cables.
  16. Verify that the square ducting system is readily accessible to technician and installer.
  17. Verify that the installed square ducting system allows for 20% expansion of the horizontal cabling system.
  18. Verify that the cable tray is not utilized to distribute both power and telecommunications cables together.
  19. Verify that dead end metal wireways are closed.
