  1. GENERAL

4.1       The Instrument Index is a tabular list that identifies the scope of work to be performed by the site instrument contractor.

4.2       The Instrument Index lists all field-mounted instrumentation (for example, transmitters, switches, and controllers), in-line devices (for example, control valves and flow elements), analyzers (for example, panels, calibration gases, and vents), and any required tubing connections to supplier-furnished equipment.

4.3       The Instrument Index is used to identify information used in conjunction with the Standard Hook- up Details. Project-specific information such as source connection valve numbers, oxygen cleaning, heat tracing, instrument air valve numbers, and special notes shall be referenced in the Index.

4.4      The Index is the master project document that informs the site contractor the proper Hook-up Detail and Instrument Mounting Detail to use for each instrument.

4.5       The Index provides additional information for each instrument such as the Location Drawing number, Instrument Specification number, P&ID sheet number, and general project notes.

4.6       Information in the Instrument Index may be sorted to identify and obtain specific functional information. For example, heat tracing and oxygen clean requirements, the amount of instrument air users connected to a specific root valve, the scope of work in certain areas of the plant, and other data can be obtained through appropriate sorting techniques.

4.7       A Instrument Index shall be completed for each project by using SPI or a Windows Excel template “index template.xls” found on the Home9 server in “Design\E-Idsgn\Instdsgn\Index.” Multiple Indexes may be completed for projects that have separate field and shop packages, such as pre- fabricated skids or cold boxes.

4.8       Each Instrument Index shall be assigned a project drawing number and shall be included in the associated Instrument Design Construction Package.
