7.0 MODIFICATION PROCEDURE (Underground Vent Pipe)
7.1 Prepare materials needed for the job.
7.2 All materials or tools must be in good condition.
7.3 Modification Threaded joint (Seal welding)
7.3.1 Underground connection will be removed by loosening the threaded joints.
7.3.2 Grinding the removed threaded part of the pipe connected to the flange.
7.3.3 Flash grinding inside of flange connected to the pipe as per Fig. 7.1 Modification Threaded joint(Seal welding)
7.3.4 Prior to welding check for cleaanliness of inside piping, cleanliness of surface, alignment of piping and root face for any deficiencies.
7.3.5 After alignment and levelness is accepted, removed foreign matter from the welding joint prior to fit-up weld.
7.3.6 The welding shall be a fillet weld going from the outer diameter of the female part, and it should be smooth with slight concavity as allowed by ASME B31, to the male part covering all exposed thread without undercut.
Fig 7.1 Modification Threaded joint (Seal welding)
7.3.7 Welding can be done by either GTA W weld process or SMAW process
7.3.8 After acceptance of fit-up proceed to seal welding as per approved WPS.
