STRUCTURAL DAMAGE BEAM (TWISTED WEB AND FLANGE)
1. Purpose
This method statement will serve as a minimum guidelines to carry out the modification works of structural damage beam and to ensure that the work will be performed in accordance with the project specification and safety standard of plants and refinery projects and other commercial buildings.
2. Scope
This method statement and procedure will cover the modification works of structural damage beam (Twisted web and flange) at plants and refinery projects.

4.0 Responsibilities
Construction Manager shall be responsible for implementing HSE matter and to study, analyze and schedule all construction activities with his department to include manpower and equipment line up
as well as other possible resources required for the successful implementation of the construction and repair work activities. Study all aspects of work procedure as per DEC/JGC technical Scope of work.
The structural supervisor shall study and review all necessary documents for the modification works in his area to include, technical scope of work, specification and construction procedure.
Structural foreman shall be responsible for the direct work supervision at site to ensure that the work
will be performed in accordance with Technical Scope of work, project specification and standard.
QC Inspector shall be responsible of monitoring and inspection of the work and ensure that the work is performed in accordance with Technical Scope of work, project specification and
standard.
Safety Supervisor/Officer shall be responsible of monitoring safety aspects and ensuring that the work will be done in accordance with DEC/JGC Safety Standard Procedure. He shall give reminders or advise to the workers to do the activity safety.
5.0 Manpower
Manpower will consist of the following, but not limited to as listed below.
- Structural Supervisor.
- Structural Foreman.
- Structural Fitters.
- Welder.
- Steel Workers.
- Safety Supervisor/Officer.
- QC Inspector.
- Scaffolder.
- Rigger if necessary.
6.0 Tools and Equipment
Tools and equipment needed should be in good condition and must be checked by structural Supervisor and Safety Officer prior to use in the construction area. These Includes but not limited as Below.
- Crane if necessary
- Hydraulic Jack
- Level
- Clamp
- Welding Machine
- Chain block/ lever block
- Electric grinder machine
- Oxy-acetylene (torch)
- Hammer
- Wrenches
7.0 Methods / Repair Procedure
Preparatory Works
- Prepare necessary work permit prior to start the works.
- Prepare all tools and equipment needed.
- Provide scaffoldings and access if required.
8. Modification Procedure
8.1 Repair Procedure
- Verify the location of beam or girder to be repair.
- Prepare jacking tools, install the jack at the bottom flange of the beam which have been damage. Note; Care must be taken on consideration not to damage the bottom flange.
- Install support below bottom flange of beam to counter the force acted by jack.
- Gradually jack-up until the damage flange return to the original figure.
- Use level to verify the flange surface if already corrected.
8.2 Repair Procedure
- Verify the location of beam or girder to be repair.
- Prepare all materials, tools to be used.
- Use a clamp to straighten the twisted web of beam.
- Gradually apply downward pressure on clamp until the web of beam straightened.
8.3 Touch up paint procedure.
- Damage paint shall be clean by means of power or wire brush prior to painting.
- Touch up paint shall be refer to table A of S-000-13A0-001 specification.
- All damage steel part shall be coated as per the applicable schedule.
- Touch up paint application shall be done by means of brush or roller.
9. Quality Control
- QA/QC inspectors shall conduct the inspection, documentation.
- QA/QC inspectors shall record and file all the necessary documents duly signed and approved by the company representative in all aspects of work.
- Re-inspection of materials that already modified such as; straightness and surface preparation prior to application of touch up painting.
10. Safety Precautions
- Approved work permit should be obtained prior to start any repair works.
- Work Execution shall be carried out in accordance with this method of statement.
- All crew must carried out a safety risk assessment prior to start of any new activity.
- The necessary manpower inclusive of supervisory staff, tools, equipment, materials, and other resources is required must be available and ready to use.
- Workers should wear their PP E’s always.
- Good housekeeping must be maintained in the duration of works.
- Safety supervisor/Officer and Engineer shall monitor compliance of entire working crew for the safety procedure until the work is fully completed.
- Contractor shall make sure that all be incident and injury free.
