Telecom Equipment Room Power Requirements | Telecom System

This article is about TER Telecom Equipment Room Power Requirements of Building Telecom Distribution System as per International Codes and standards.

Telecom Equipment Room Power Requirements | Telecom System

  1. Ensure that each equipment rack is provided with a minimum of two (2) dedicated 20 AMP, 120 VAC duplex electrical outlets, each on separate circuits for equipment power.
  2. Verify that the outlet(s) are mounted on the equipment rack that it is serving or at ceiling level mounted directly above the equipment rack being served.
  3. Verify that backup, standby, or emergency power sources that has automatic switch over capability is provided.
  4. Verify that all outlets are on non-switched circuits (circuits that are not controlled by a wall/light switch or other device that may inadvertently cut power to the telecommunication systems).
  5. Ensure that Power panel for dedicated electrical service is provided in the TER (Telecom Equipment Room) when active equipment is planned or installed
  6. Verify that dedicated feeder/branch circuits and power conditioning are provided for the Telecom Equipment Room (TER).
  7. Verify that space for power conditioning, backup, or standby systems as required for the equipment is allocated.
  8. Verify that minimum light levels are 540 lux (50 foot candles) measured 91 cm (3 ft) above the floor level in front of and in the back of equipment racks.
  9. Ensure that light fixture positions is coordinated with the equipment layout, and overhead cable trays to ensure that lighting is not obstructed to any area in the equipment room.
  10. Verify that the TER is equipped with emergency lighting.
  11. Verify that at least one emergency power duplex outlet if it is available to the building is provided when the TER is used as Telecommunication Service Entrance.
