Telecom Indoor Fiber Optic Cable – Material Receiving Checklist

  1. Verify that the received materials have been inspected for damage and for compliance to applicable requirements.
  2. Verify cable reel storage and Protection is as per Manufacturer’s Recommendation.
  3. Verify all cable and components received comply with the project PO specification and shall conform to all applicable requirements, standards, and specifications prior to release to be used as part of the work.
  4. Verify that On-reel acceptance tests is performed on the cable to confirm the manufacturer’s tests before the placing operation begins.
  5. Verify and insure that the outer cable jacket is marked at regular intervals (not to exceed 2 m) with the following information:
    a) As required by NEC Article-770 (Table-770-50)
    b) Name of Manufacturer
    c) Year of Manufacture
    d) Number of Fibers in the cable.”
  6. Verify that the received materials are new and unused.
  7. Verify that material and accessories are in accordance with the Saudi Aramco-approved project-specific design drawings, diagrams, schedules, lists, databases, and associated design documents
  8. For outdoors storage, verify that cable reels is supported off the ground and provided with a weatherproof (i.e., rain and dust-tight) cover.
  9. General – Cable reels shall be stored away from open flame, fire, arc welding, brazing, grinding and other sources of high heat or ignition.
  10. Verify that received cables with cable jacket material not rated for exposure to sunlight shall be stored under a sunshade or indoors.
  11. Verify that received fiber optic cables to be installed as wiring within buildings is an air core, Optical Fiber Non conductive Plenum (OFNP) or Optical Fiber Non conductive Riser (OFNR) type with or without non metallic moisture barrier and shall be listed.
  12. Verify materials identification procedure is implemented for the received items.
  13. Ensure that cable and accessories shall be traceable from the manufacturer and supplier through delivery, storage, fabrication, erection, installation, repair, modification and use.
