Horizontal Cable Tray System Installation
- Verify that horizontal cable tray locations is coordinated with lighting, air handling systems, fire extinguishing systems, etc., so that trays will not obstruct or impede system operation
- Verify that a minimum clearance of 30 cm (12 in) is provided between the top rail of horizontal cable trays and ceilings.
- Verify that horizontal cable trays, and cabling are suspended from or attached to the structural ceiling or walls with hardware or other installation aids specifically designed to support their weight.
- Verify that horizontal cable tray and cables are not resting directly on ceiling panels, framework (T-bars), vertical supports, or other components of the suspended ceiling.
- Verify that the horizontal cable tray is located 15 cm (6 in.) to 30 cm (12 in.) above the top surface of the cable tray side rail.
- Verify that the horizontal cable tray have a minimum of 8 cm (3 in.) of clear vertical space from conduits, wires, and cables.
- Verify that the inside of a horizontal cable tray is free of burrs, sharp edges, or projections which can damage cable insulation.
- Verify that horizontal cable tray system is not used to distribute telecommunications and power cables together.
- Verify that horizontal cable trays are not installed in ceiling areas (lock tiles, drywall or plaster) that are inaccessible..
- Verify the use of proper support for the horizontal cable trays by installing cantilever, trapeze and individual rod suspension brackets.
- Verify that supports are placed so that connections between sections of the horizontal cable tray are between the support point and the quarter section of the span. A support shall also be placed within 0.6 m (2 ft) on each side of any connection to a fitting.
- Verify that horizontal cable tray fills is not exceeding the manufactures listed capacity for the installed cable tray.
- Verify that during the installation that workers never use horizontal cable trays as walkways or ladders.
- Verify that metallic horizontal cable trays are bonded together and grounded to an approved ground source.
- Verify that trays are marked and identified as specified by EIA TIA-606, “The Administration Standard for the Telecommunications Infrastructure of Commercial Buildings”.
- Verify that the cable tray enters the TC in such a way that it does not block or cover other equipment and cabling.
- Verify that the cable tray is secured mechanically or anchored so that movement does not occur during installation of cables.
- Verify that the cable tray is readily accessible to technician and installer.
- Verify that the installed cable tray allows for 20% expansion of the horizontal cabling system.
- Verify that the cable tray is supported on 1500-mm(5 ft) centers unless designed for greater lengths as per internal codes and standards EIA/TIA-569 para 4.5.5.
- Verify that cable trays are not house or support cable splice closures.
- Verify that cable tray under access floors must be fully accessible without moving building fixtures, equipment, or heavy furniture or disturbing building occupants.
