Horizontal UTP/STP Copper Cable Installation and Inspection

This article is about Building Premises Distribution System, Installation Of Horizontal UTP/STP Copper Cable, horizontal cabling structure, horizontal cabling diagram, who establishes the flame rating for cables, horizontal cabling standards, backbone cabling diagram, backbone cabling system, which category of utp is the recommended cabling standard for 1 gbps over copper media, backbone cabling vs horizontal cabling.

Horizontal UTP/STP Copper Cable Installation and Inspection

UTP/STP Cable Installation

  1. Verify and ensure that cables are inspected for damage prior to placing and during the installation.
  2. Verify that Category 6UTP cables are being provided and recognized for use in horizontal distribution cabling and shall be used for new installations.
  3. Verify that the installed UTP cable is Four-pair 100-ohm unshielded twisted-pair.
  4. Verify that each four-pair 100-ohm UTP cable is terminated in an eight-position modular jack at the work area.
  5. Verify that connecting hardware used for horizontal cable runs shall meet the requirements for reliability, safety, and transmission performance specified in TIA/EIA-568A and ANSI/NFPA – 70.
  6. Verify that all cabling are tested per TIA/EIA TSB 67 and certified by installers who have been trained, qualified and certified to do these types of installations.
  7. Verify that the maximum horizontal distance shall be 90 m (295 ft.) for all horizontal distribution cables.
  8. Verify eliminating cable stress caused by tension in suspended runs and tightly clinched cable bundles as per international standard BICSI TDMM, Chapter 5.
  9. Verify reducing untwisting of wire pairs by stripping back only as much cable jacket as is required to perform connecting hardware termination (with allowance for excess length that may removed during termination) as per international standard BICSI TDMM, Chapter 5
  10. Maintaining a physical separation between telecommunications cabling and the sources of EMI as per international standard BICSI TDMM, Chapter 5.
  11. Verify that installed UTP cabling meet or exceed the near-end crosstalk requirements for the category of the embedded horizontal cables that they are connected to.
  12. Verify that the amount of untwisting for UTP cabling shall not exceed 13 mm (0.5 inch.) for category 6 cables.
  13. Verify that the cable test results are recorded and made available to the inspection and proponent departments for review, including a summary sheet shall be submitted with the As-Build documentation and the Mechanical Completion Certificate (MCC).
  14. Verify that all excess materials and debris are removed from the telecommunication facility and the construction site.
