Radio Frequency RF Equipment Installation Checklist

This article is about Radio Frequency RF Equipment Installation Checklist and Commissioning of Communications Systems as per International Codes and standards.

Radio Frequency RF Equipment Installation Checklist

RF Equipment Installation

  1. Verify that the installed VHF/UHF radio systems operating in classified areas are certified by Factory Mutual Research Corp.(FM) for either:
    • 1- Class 1, Division 1, Gas Groups C & D (Ethylene & Propane).
    • 2- Class 1, Division 2, Gas Groups A, B, C & D (Acetylene, Hydrogen, Ethylene & Propane).
    • or
    • Class 1, zone 1, Gas Groups IIb(Ethylene & Propane)
    • Class 1, zone 2, Gas Groups IIc (Acetylene, Hydrogen, Ethylene & Propane)
  2. Verify that the installation instructions issued by the manufacturer for the RF equipment are followed unless specific exceptions or deviations are noted in writing and/or on the installation/construction drawings.
  3. Verify that the installed radio equipment is grounded and it is done in accordance with SAES-T-795, “Communications Facility Grounding Systems”.
  4. Verify that the installed RF equipment arrangements comply with project IFC drawing requirements.
  5. Verify that the installed RF equipment type and components comply with project specification and requirements.
  6. Verify inspecting solid connections of wires and grounds to insure safety and proper operation.
  7. Verify the operating frequencies of transmitters and receivers.
  8. Verify RF power of transmitter and confirming coverage area of base station.
  9. Check RF cable and antenna matching and Voltage Standing Wave Ratio, VSWR.
  10. Check Signal-to-Noise Ratio, SINAD, for receiver systems.

RF Equipment Commissioning

Verify that all Field testing and inspection of the installed RF equipment are conducted and recorded in a log book to be handed to the Proponent Department.
Verify that all Pre-commissioning Phase Quality Control Activities are complied.
