RF Waveguide / Coaxial Installation and Commissioning & Checklist

This article is about RF Waveguide / Coaxial Installation and Commissioning & Checklist of Communications Systems as per International Codes and standards.

RF Waveguide / Coaxial Installation and Commissioning & Checklist

RF Waveguide / Coaxial Installation

  1. Ensure that the provided waveguide meet the standard waveguide part dimensions as given in Table 4 of EIA/TIA 329-C.
  2. Verify that the installation instructions issued by the manufacturer for the RF equipment are followed unless specific exceptions or deviations are noted in writing and/or on the installation/construction drawings.
  3. Verify that the installed RF waveguide arrangements comply with project IFC drawing requirements.
  4. Ensure inspecting solid connections of wires and grounds to insure safety and proper operation.
  5. Checking RF cable and antenna matching and Voltage Standing Wave Ratio, VSWR..
  6. Verify that the waveguides located outside communications building is bonded directly to the AC ground grid outside the building.
  7. Verify the grounding conductors are insulated copper base material. They shall be run either in nonmetallic conduit only, or not in conduit at all, and run only through nonmetallic sleeves in ceilings, floors and walls.
  8. Verify that cable tags are placed at both ends of the transmission line for identification as per STD DWG# AA-036361, note 6.
  9. Verify the use of cable ties to fasten flexible cable to cable tray and equipment racks as per STD DWG# AA-036361, note 8.

RF Waveguide / Coaxial Commissioning

  1. Verify that all Field testing and inspection of the installed RF equipment are conducted and recorded in a log book to be handed to the Proponent Department.
  2. Verify that all Pre-Commissioning Phase Quality Control Activities are complied.

Waveguide Bulkhead Installation

  1. Verify that the installed waveguide bulkhead comply with project IFC drawing requirements.
  2. The instructions issued by the manufacturer shall be followed unless specific exceptions or deviations are noted in writing and/ or on the installation/ construction drawings.
  3. Check RF cable and antenna matching and Voltage Standing Wave Ratio, VSWR.
