Instrumentation Testing:
The contractor at a minimum is required to perform a point too point wire check verifying cables and wires are terminated at the proper locations.
Loop checking will require coordination between Air Products representative and Contractor. Involved will be advising contractor of priority terminations and loops required to maintain commissioning schedule. Additional contractor commissioning support may be required in the contract.
- In union areas, panels, skids, equipment, etc. may have to be accepted formally by Contractor to allow instrumentation calibration and commissioning by Air Products Technicians without stand by labor.
Installation of Instrument Air Piping
Ensure that all drawings, standards, and applicable specifications being used are the latest revision, including Fabrication and Erection Specifications.
Proper materials:
Carbon steel socket welded system normally sized for ½-1”, schedule 40, and seamless carbon steel, ASTM A 106, Grade B. Carbon steel threaded system normally sized for ½-1”, schedule 80 and seamless. Refer to specification 630.292 for requirements.
Stainless steel Victaulic Press Fit system normally sized for ½-1”, 0.049” wall thickness stainless steel. ASTM A 269 Grade 304/304L. Victaulic Corporation is the only approved supplier of this type system.
Proper supporting:
Carbon steel piping shall be supported at the following maximum spacing distances:
For ½” – ¾” diameter pipe, maximum support spacing shall be 10 feet.
For 1” diameter pipe, maximum support spacing shall be 15 feet.
Note that additional supports may be needed to support change in direction and offsets to prevent sagging. See ASME B31.3 for additional information on maximum support spacing.
Victaulic Press fit shall be supported at maximum lengths based on size of piping.
For ½” diameter pipe, maximum support spacing shall be 7 feet.
For ¾” diameter pipe, maximum support spacing shall be 8 feet.
For 1” diameter pipe, maximum support spacing shall be 9 feet.
Note that additional support may be needed to prevent sagging of offsets and direction changes.
Where piping goes from press fit to screw pipe additional support is required. An example is at a valve connection.
Attachment hardware shall be galvanized unless other wise noted.
