ROOF WATERPROOFING AND THERMAL INSULATION METHOD STATEMENT

This article is about METHOD STATEMENT ROOF WATERPROOFING AND THERMAL INSULATION using “Sure-Seal” EPDM Membrane. The Roofing System is based upon the use of large roll size rubber elastomeric
waterproofing membrane, fully bonded over PIR thermal insulation board.

ROOF WATERPROOFING AND THERMAL INSULATION METHOD STATEMENT

Base:  Concrete screed (By Others)

Separation Layer:

Separation layer of polyethylene sheet 250 micron between concrete and insulation board.

Thermal Insulation:

Single layer of rigid thermal insulation PIR from SAPTX, 50mm thick (Polyurethane) with glassfiber on one sides, mechanically fastened by means of plates and screws.

Waterproofing Membrane:

Single Ply of “Sure Seal” E.P.D.M EthyIene Propylene Diene monomer rubberelastomeric waterproofing membrane, 0.060″ thick, manufactured by M/s.

Carlisle USA, fully bonded, mechanically fastened around roof perimeter and upstands with “Sure-Seal” Russ (reinforced universal securement strip) 6″ (15cm) wide. Membrane overlap shall be 3″ (minimum 7.5cm) wide and covered with “Secure Tape – 3” fully cured synthetic rubber.

Membrane Flashing:

Flashing to roof parapet/upstands at an average height of 300mm using E.P.D.M. “Sure-Seal” elastomeric rubber waterproofing membrane, 0.060″ thick, fully bonded with “Sure-Seal” 90-8-30A Bonding Adhesive.

Metal Counter Flashing:

Upper ends of membrane flashing shall be mechanically fastened with Carlisle Termination Bar and sealed at its upper ends with sealant protection.

Roof Details:

1. Internal/External corners shall be suitably dressed first with “Sure-Seal” E.P.D.M. membrane. Then reinforced with extra piece layer of “Sure-Seal” Elastoform Flashing of uncured ‘EPDM’, 0.060″ thick, and sealed around with “Sure-Seal” lap sealant.
2 Roof drains shall be suitably dressed around with “Sure-Seal” E.P.D.M. and
sealed with “Sure-Seal” Water Cut-Off Mastic.
3. “Sure-Seal” E.P.D.M. membrane overlaps shall be 100mm wide, first cleaned with “Sure-Seal” Splice Wash, seamed together with “Sure-Seal” EP.95 Self healing splicing cement and sealed with “Sure-Seal” lap sealant protection.

4. Insert a new foam backing rod having a diameter greater than the joint followed by fixing masking tape at both sides of the joint. Pouring heavy duty  single component of polysulphide sealant “Polyseal P.S”. and single layer of Sure-Seal EPDM membrane dressing and field fabricated aluminium capping as per BMC design.
