Telecom Closet Installation

  1. Verify that the telecommunication room shall have the following features for doorways:
    • Fully opening
    • Equipped with combination locks
    • Having a minimum width of 91 cm (36 in)
    • Having a minimum height of 2.0 M (80 in)
    • The hinges shall allow the door to do one of the follow:
    – Open outward (if allowed by fire code)
    – Slide side-to-side
    – Be removable”
  2. Verify the use of the following for reducing dust and static electricity:
    • Installation of tile instead of carpet
    • Coating or treat floors and walls with paint or coatings that minimize static electricity and dust.”
  3. Verify that False ceilings is not permitted in the telecommunication closet (s).
  4. Verify that a minimum of two walls covered with rigidly fixed 19 mm (¾ in.) thick x 2440 mm (8 ft) high trade, size A-C plywood, capable of supporting attached equipment is provided.”
  5. Verify that all terminal mounting surfaces (plywood backboard, etc.) are painted with two coats of white non-conductive, fire retardant paint.
  6. Ensure that fire protection for each telecommunication closets is provided in accordance to SAES-B-014.
  7. Verify that Fire sprinkler (wet) systems shall not to be used (unless required by fire or building codes) in the telecommunication closets. Dry type of fire sprinkler systems and fire extinguishers shall be considered.
  8. Verify that all materials that are used to seal penetrations in fire rated walls and floors are listed for the specific application and comply to UL 1479 requirements.
  9. Verify that a minimum of 91 cm (3 ft) of clear work space in front of equipment and termination fields is maintained at the telecommunication closet.
  10. Verify that a minimum access of 76 cm (30 in) is provided to the rear of equipment installed at the TC for maintenance purposes.
  11. Verify that each telecommunication closet is identify in accordance to EIA TIA-606 (Administration Standard For The Telecommunication Infrastructure Of Commercial Buildings).
