1. Scope
This specification is for furnishing, unloading, storage, and installation of uninsulated steel siding and
roofing.

3. General
Uniform Static Air Pressure Difference
3.1 Performance Requirements
3.1.1 Uninsulated siding and roofing panels assembly shall comply with performance requirements
indicated in this specification, and shall be capable of withstanding structural movement, thermally
induced movement, and exposure to weather, without failure or infiltration of water into the building interior.
3.1.2 Uninsulated panel assemblies shall provide permanent resistance to air leakage through assembly
of not more than 0.45 L/s/m2(0.09 cfm/ft2) of fixed area when tested according to ASTM E 283 at a
static-air-pressure difference of 192 Pa (4.0 lb/ft2).
3.1.3 Uninsulated panel assemblies shall not allow water penetration, as defined in the test method, when
tested according to ASTM E 331 at a minimum differential pressure of 20 percent of inward acting,
wind-load design pressure of not less than 300 Pa (6.24 lb/ft2) and not more than 575 Pa (12.0 lb/ft).
3.1.4 Uninsulated panel assemblies shall be capable of withstanding design wind loads in accordance

with SES B01-E01, under in-service conditions with deflection no greater than 1/180 of the span.
The following shall be submitted for SABIC approval:

a. Product data, which shall include manufacturer’s product specifications, standard details,
certified product test results, and general recommendations, as applicable to materials and finishes
for each component and for total panel assemblies
b. One set of shop drawing, which shall show layouts of panels, details of corner conditions, joints,
panel profiles, supports, anchorages, trim, flashings, closures, and special details. Factory- and
field-assembled work shall be clearly distinguishable.
c. For installed products indicated to comply with design loadings in 3.1.4, structural analysis data
shall be included, which shall be signed and sealed by the qualified professional engineer responsible
for their preparation
d. Samples for initial selection shall be provided from manufacturer’s color charts or chips, showing
the full range of colors, textures, profiles and patterns available for uninsulated steel siding and roofing
panels with factory-applied finishes. Once color and profile have been selected, a sample panel
300 mm long by actual panel width shall be provided, in the profile, style, texture and color indicated.
Clips, caps, battens, fasteners, closures, and other exposed panel accessories shall be included.
e. Panel installer shall submit to SABIC, a list of projects completed within the last five years, and
addresses, names and addresses of architects and owners. Also, metal panel manufacturer shall
provide a letter to SABIC certifying that the installer is capable of undertaking the project.
3.3 Quality Assurance
3.3.1 An experienced installer shall be engaged who has completed uninsulated metal panels projects
similar in material, design, and extent to that indicated for the project, and which have a record of
successful in-service performance.
3.3.2 Where fire-resistance-rated wall panel assemblies are indicated, materials and construction shall be
identical to those of assemblies tested for fire resistance in accordance with ASTM E 119 by an
independent testing and inspecting agency acceptable to SABIC.
3.4 Delivery, Storage, and Handling
3.4.1 Panels and other components shall be delivered in a way that they are not damaged or deformed.
Package panels shall be protected against damage during transportation or handling.
3.4.2 Care shall be exercised in unloading, storing, and erecting wall panels, to prevent bending, warping,
twisting, and surface damage.
3.4.3 Materials shall be stacked on platforms or pallets, and covered with tarpaulins or other suitable
weathertight and ventilated covering. Panels shall be stored in a way that ensures dryness. Panels shall
not be stored in contact with other materials that might cause staining, denting, or other surface damage.
3.5 Project Conditions
Location of structural members and openings in substrates shall be verified by field measurements before
fabrication. Measurements shall be indicated on shop drawings. Fabrication schedule shall be coordinated
with construction progress, to avoid delaying the work.
3.6 Warranty
3.6.1 Special warranties in this specification shall be in addition to, and run concurrent with, other
warranties made by the contract or under requirements of the contract documents.
3.6.2 A special finish warranty for 10 (ten) years from project completion shall be submitted, signed by
manufacturer, covering failure of the factory-applied exterior finish on metal panels, and agreeing to repair
finish or replace panels that show evidence of finish deterioration. Deterioration of finish shall include, color
fade, chalking, cracking, peeling, and loss of film integrity.
4. Products
4.1 Materials and Finishes
4.1.1 Uninsulated steel siding, roofing panels, flashing, trim, fascia, liner panels, gutters, and downspouts
shall be hot-dipped galvanized steel sheet or zinc-aluminum coated steel sheet as specified in 4.1.2 and
4.1.3 Uninsulated siding, roofing and liner panels shall be minimum 24 gage thickness unless noted

otherwise on drawings. See SES A12-S03 for required thickness for example, flashing, trims, gutters, and
fascia.
4.1.2 Galvanized steel sheet shall conform to ASTM A 653M, and shall be grade 90 hot dip galvanized in
accordance with ASTM A 924M, or SABIC approved equal.
4.1.3 Zinc-aluminum coated steel sheet shall conform to ASTM A 792M, grade 50B with a coating
designation AZ 150.
4.1.4 Exterior face of wall and roof panels, flashing, trim, fascia, gutters, gutter cradles, and downspouts
shall be coated with a shop applied, oven-baked coating consisting of a rust-inhibitive primer coat and a
polyvinylidene fluoride finish coat. The finish coat shall be based on PPG Industries, Kynar resin and shall
be of a licensed formulation containing not less than PolyVinyl Fluoride (PVF) 70 percent Kynar resin,
complying with ASTM D 523. Panels shall be one uniform color. Color shall be as selected by
Architect/Engineer or SABIC from manufacturer’s standard color chart.
4.1.5 Interior surfaces of exterior face sheets for wall and roof panels, flashing, trim, fascia, gutters, and
downspouts shall be coated with manufacturer’s standard shop applied, baked-on primer and finish coat,
with manufacturer’s standard oven cured off white polyester finish coat.
4.1.6 Panels shall provide minimum 900 mm wide coverage and have minimum length of 6000 mm
unless noted otherwise on drawings. Panels profile shall be the Hi-Rib type as manufactured by Zamil
Steel Building Co. or SABIC approved equal.
4.2 Panel Assemblies
4.2.1 Panels shall be lapped by one major corrugation from each panel at the sidelap, to provide a double
syphon break against capillary action. Panels shall be lap-seam assembly designed for mechanical
attachment to purlins and girts using exposed fasteners and sealants.
4.2.2 Roof panel endlaps, when they occur, shall not be less than 150 mm and shall be at purlin locations.
4.2.3 Wall panels shall be continuous wherever possible from base to eave/gable, and shall have the
same one corrugations sidelap as the roof panels.
4.2.4 Ridge panels shall be one piece when roof slope is  0.5/12
, starting at last endlap of roof panels and bending ridge panel to the next roof panel on the opposite roof slope, forming a continuous ridge panel.
For  2/12 roof slope, high ribs shall be cut, then panels shall be bent over ridge bent and covered with a
ridge cap the entire length of the roof.
4.3 Miscellaneous Materials
4.3.1 Materials and accessories shall be provided as required for a complete roof and wall panel
assembly, and as recommended by panel manufacturer, unless noted otherwise in contract documents.
4.3.2 Translucent panels, where shown on drawings, shall be glass-fiber-reinforced, polyester,
translucent, plastic glazing panels complying with ASTM D 3841, Type CC1, limited flammability, Grade 2,
weather resistant, crinkle finish both sides, weighing not less than 2.5 kg/m2 (8 oz/ft2). Configuration of
adjacent metal panels shall be matched. Color shall be white.
4.3.3 Thermal spacers shall be provided where panels attach directly to purlins, if recommended by panel
manufacturer.
4.3.4 Fasteners shall be self-tapping screws, bolts, nuts, self-locking rivets and bolts, end-welded studs,
or other suitable fasteners designed to withstand the design loads, in accordance with SES B01-E01.
Fasteners shall also comply with the following:
a. Galvanized steel fasteners shall be used for exterior and interior applications
b. Exposed fasteners shall be provided with heads matching color of panel by means of plastic
caps or factory-applied coating
c. Metal-backed neoprene washers shall be provided under heads of exposed fasteners bearing
on weather side of panels

d. Exposed fasteners shall be located and spaced in true vertical and horizontal alignment. Proper
tools shall be used to obtain controlled uniform compression, for positive seal without rupture of
neoprene washer.
4.3.5 Components and accessories required for a complete roof and wall panel assembly including trim,
copings, fascia, mullions, sills, corner units, ridge closures, clips, seam covers, battens, flashings, gutters,
sealants, gaskets, fillers, closure strips, and similar items shall be provided, unless noted otherwise in
contact documents. Materials and finishes of panels shall be matched. For metal flashing and trim, see
SES A12-S03.
4.3.6 Closure strips shall be closed-cell, self-extinguishing, expanded, cellular, rubber or cross-linked,
polyolefin-foam flexible closure strips. Strips shall be cut or premolded to match configuration of panels.
Closure strips shall be provided where indicated or necessary to ensure weathertight construction.
4.3.7 Sealing tape shall be pressure-sensitive, 100 percent solids, polyisobutylene compound sealing tape
with release paper backing. Permanently elastic, nonsag, nontoxic, nonstaining tape shall be provided.
4.3.8 Elastomeric joint sealant shall comply with ASTM C 920, and shall be of base polymer, type, grade,
class, and use classifications required to seal joints in panel roofing and to remain weathertight. Sealant
recommended by panel manufacturer and in accordance with SES A13-S01shall be provided.
4.3.9 Expansion-joint sealant, where required, shall be provided for hooked-type expansion joints that
have to be free to move. Nonsetting, nonhardening, nonmigrating, heavy-bodied polyisobutylene sealant
shall be provided.
4.4 Panel Supports and Anchorage
Panel support and anchorage shall be as required to withstand the design load in accordance with
SES B01-E01, and shall require SABIC approval. See SES B02-S04 for material requirements. The panel
supplier or manufacturer shall not be responsible for providing panel support and anchorage.
5. Execution
5.1 Examination
5.1.1 Substrates and conditions described in 5.1.2 shall be examined, with installer present, for
compliance with requirements indicated for conditions affecting performance of metal panels.
5.1.2 Roof and wall framing panel support and anchorage shall be examined, to verify that purlins, girts,
angles, channels, and other secondary structural panel support members and anchorage have been
installed according to written instructions of panel manufacturer.
5.1.3 Any unsatisfactory conditions shall be corrected prior to proceeding with metal panel installation.
5.2 Preparation
5.2.1 Metal panels shall be coordinated with flashing, trim, parapets, walls, and other adjoining work, to
provide a leakproof, secure, and noncorrosive installation.
5.2.2 Protective film, if any, shall be removed promptly from exposed surfaces of metal panels. Film shall
be stripped with care, to avoid damage to finish.
5.2.3 Purlins, girts, bracing, and other secondary structural panel support members and anchorage shall
be installed in accordance with erection drawings.
5.3 Panel Installation
5.3.1 Panel installation shall comply with panel manufacturer’s written instructions and recommendations
for installation, as applicable to project conditions and supporting substrates. Panels and other components
of the work shall be secured in place, with provisions for thermal and structural movement.
5.3.2 Field cutting of exterior panels by torch shall not be permitted.
5.3.3 Panels shall be installed with exposed exterior and interior fasteners, prefinished to match panel
finishes.

5.3.4 Metal panels shall be erected in accordance with manufacturer’s reviewed shop drawings. The
alignment of structural steel shall be examined before erecting metal panels. Erection of metal panels shall
not proceed if steel is not aligned to the tolerances specified in AISC Code of Standard Practice for Steel
Buildings and Bridges. Panels shall be accurately positioned on supporting framework, and adjusted to
final position with proper bearing before securing. Panels shall be erected with end laps over girts,
horizontal lines straight, and level with vertical lines plumb.
5.3.5 Care shall be exercised in drilling and cutting. Metal filings, drill shavings, and burrs shall be
removed from adjacent surfaces prior to panel erection. Metal flashing trim, and elsewhere as required,
shall be field caulked for a weatherproof installation.
5.3.6 Components and accessories required for a complete roof and wall panel assembly, including trim,
copings, fasciae, ridge closures, clips, seam covers, battens, flashings, gutters, sealants, gaskets, fillers,
closure strips, and similar items shall be installed.
5.3.7 Dissimilar metals shall be separated by painting each metal surface in the area of contact, with a
bituminous coating, by applying rubberized-asphalt underlayment to each metal surface, or by other
permanent separation as recommended by manufacturer’s of dissimilar metals.
5.3.8 Back side of metal panels shall be coated with bituminous coating where it will contact wood, ferrous
metal, or cementitious construction.
5.3.9 Gaskets, joint fillers, and sealants shall be installed where indicated and where required for
weatherproof performance of panel assemblies. Types of gaskets, fillers, and sealants indicated shall be
provided, or, if not otherwise indicated, types recommended by panel manufacturer.
5.3.10 Weatherseal shall be installed under ridge cap. Flashed and sealed panels shall be at eave, and
raked with rubber, neoprene, or other closures to exclude weather.
5.3.11 Panel end laps shall be sealed with double beads of tape or sealant, for the full width of panel. Side
joints shall be sealed where recommended by panel manufacturer.
5.3.12 Joints and sealants shall be prepared and applied in accordance with SES A13-S01.
5.3.13 Sealant tape shall be provided at lapped joints of ribbed or fluted panels, and between panels and
protruding equipment, vents, and accessories. A continuous ribbon of sealant tape shall be applied to
clean, dry surface of the weather side of fastenings on end laps; on side laps of corrugated nesting-type,
ribbed, or fluted panels; and elsewhere as needed to make panels weatherproof to driving rains.
5.3.14 Panel units shall be shimmed and aligned within installed tolerance of 6 mm in 6 m on slope and
location lines as indicated, and within 3 mm offset of adjoining faces and of alignment of matching profiles.
5.4 Cleaning and Protecting
5.4.1 Metal panels and other components that are damaged, or have deteriorated beyond successful
repair by finish touchup or similar minor repair procedures, shall be replaced.
5.4.2 Temporary protective coverings and strippable films, if any, shall be removed as soon as each panel
is installed. On completion of panel installation, finished surfaces shall be cleaned as recommended by
panel manufacturer, and maintained in a clean condition during construction.
