Very High Voltage Cable Material Selection Guide & Technical Requirements

Very High Voltage Cable drums shall be compared with latest vendor drawings and project specifications. NEC 310.11 & NETA, ATS- 2007 Sec. 7.3.3
Check that Vendor Installation Manual for Very High Voltage Cable handling is provided along with the shipment. NEC 310.11
Power cables rated 69 KV and above, with solid dielectric insulation, shall comply with either AEIC CS6 (69 KV EPR insulated cable) or AEIC CS7 (69 KV and above XLPE insulated cable).
Insulation thickness shall be in accordance with the tables in these standards (e.g., 16.5 mm (650 mils) for 69 Kv rated cables and 20.3 mm (800 mils) for 115 KV rated cables), not reduced thickness based on maximum stress design.
Cables shall be marked to indicate the following information and shall be repeated at intervals not exceeding 1.0 m (40 in.).
a) Rated Voltage
b) Type of cable
c) Manufacturer’s name, Trademark
d) The AWG size or circular mil area  NEC 310.11
Check that the end cap (seal) of cable is heat-shrinkable. NEC 110.3B

Check that the cables are supplied from the acceptable manufacturers as listed in Section 6.2.
